My solo show is up at Solano Cellars from October to January 2025 - 1580 Solano Avenue, Albany, California 94707

Luis Moya, a self-taught artist raised in Havana, Cuba, is known for his work deeply rooted in abstraction. Working out of a garage studio in San Francisco, California, Moya draws inspiration from his surroundings to create his own paint using locally foraged soil pigments, charcoal, and seashells. This unique approach lends an authentic quality to his pieces, reflecting a harmonious blend of his cultural heritage and the organic textures of his environment. He further enhances his art by framing each piece with locally reclaimed wood, adding an additional layer of connection to his surroundings. In his creative process, Moya also employs watercolor techniques, using rain, stream, and Pacific Ocean water to infuse his pieces with the essence of the natural world. Working with soil particularly grounds him, offering a profound and meditative connection to the earth's elements.

There’s something deeply grounding about hiking through nature, feeling the earth beneath my feet. I gather soil pigments from the land around me, each shade telling a story of its own. Back in my studio, I transform these natural elements into paint, capturing the essence of the earth in every brushstroke. My abstract art reflects the organic, minimalist beauty of nature, offering a meditative experience.
